Ball State

January 1, 2009 - 8:04am | Posted by Don

Some of you may know that I attended Ball State University. I used to go to as many football games as I could... usually half naked with my chest painted (Yes, even in the freezing cold!). The football team won their first game of my BSU career in my junior year. Yes, they made it 2 full seasons without a win, and then the first half of a 3rd season, before a victory over rival Miami (At Miami), and then the next week at home against Western Michigan (2 game winning streak! Ahhhh!). After that home win against WMU, the students were so excited to be witnessing a win after 3 years, that we all rushed the field and tore down the goalposts. Good times =)

Now, just 10 years after that horrendous stretch, the Ball State Cardinals finished off their regular season 12-0, before losing a heartbreaking game to Buffalo in the MAC Championship game. They play in the GMAC bowl on January 6th. That's quite a turnaround.

Anyhoo... the team held an open practice yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. I had a few vacation days I was using for work, so I decided to go to it. I went to Muncie the day before to buy some BSU memorabilia, and then to the practice. After practice, I hung around, met some players, and got some autographs

I managed to get about 30 players to sign a couple of footballs for me, and also got a couple of mini helmets signed by Nate Davis, their starting QB, and best chance at an NFL draft pick since... well... it's been a damn long time =) I know it's just Ball State, so it's really not worth anything to anybody but me, but I'm still excited. Got all the big names... Nate Davis, Dante Love, MiQuale Lewis, Darius Hill, etc...

BSU Football

Pretty good end to the year. I do a lot of complaining in this blog, but life is pretty good. I have a great wife... we bought an awesome house this year... I have a good job, which is awesome in this economy... and some great friends. There's been some down times too, of course... but overall, it's been a pretty good year. Hope 2009 goes just as well!
